Appraisal Standards Board

Under the provisions of Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA), the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) is responsible for writing, amending, and interpreting the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). The ASB issues Exposure Drafts (see below) on proposed changes to USPAP and obtains feedback at public meetings throughout the year in various regions of the country. Additionally, the ASB occasionally issues USPAP Q&As and participates in speaking engagements on request.

The ASB also works with the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) on the USPAP Courses in the Course Approval Program (CAP) and the Instructor Certification Course (ICC) and Instructor Recertification Course (IRC).

Current Board Members

The ASB is composed of five to nine members who are appointed by the BOT and may serve up to eight years. Activities of the Board are directed by the Chair, who is appointed by the BOT for a one-year term.

Exposure Drafts

The ASB offers Exposure Drafts on proposed changes to USPAP  during the revision process for public comment. All active Exposure Drafts can be viewed below. Exposure Drafts always have comment deadlines, and the Boards read and consider each comment received prior to making any changes. To offer public comment on an active Exposure Draft, please submit your comments at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ASBComments

Announcements

On July 26, 2022, the Appraisal Standards Board released the Third Exposure Draft of Proposed Changes to USPAP. Details can be found in the Exposure Draft section above. A webinar about the proposed changes was held on August 11, 2022 and can be viewed on the Foundation's YouTube page.
