The Appraisal Foundation (Foundation), in partnership with the US Department of Justice, is publisher of the Uniform Appraisal Standards for Federal Land Acquisitions, commonly known as the "Yellow Book."  The purpose of the Yellow Book is to promote fairness, uniformity, and efficiency in the appraisal of real property in federal land acquisitions. The Foundation has developed two Yellow Book courses for education providers to offer to students via a License Agreement. More information about these courses are below.
Uniform Appraisal Standards for Federal Land Acquisitions (Yellow Book) Course

The Uniform Appraisal Standards for Federal Land Acquisitions (Yellow Book) Course is now available! The course is available via a License Agreement for education providers to offer. 

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • gain an understanding of the development process for valuation assignments for federal land acquisitions; 
  • demonstrate an increased knowledge about the application of Yellow Book Standards to valuation assignments for federal land acquisitions;
  • evaluate the content and level of information and analysis required to communicate the results of an appraisal prepared for federal land acquisitions; and
  • connect the legal foundation/rationale/guidance that govern recurring valuation problems and specialized appraisal issues unique to federal land acquisitions.

USPAP and the Yellow Book: A Guide to Understanding Their Relationship

USPAP and the Yellow Book: A Guide to Understanding Their Relationship is a 7-hour continuing education course approved through the Appraiser Qualifications Board’s Course Approval Program.* The course provides an opportunity to explore and learn more about some of the commonalities and—equally as important—some of the differences between the two most important and significant appraisal standards in the United States.

Upon completion of the course, students will:

  • Understand the commonalities and differences between the two Standards; and
  • Apply knowledge about the Standards to specific appraisal issues.
